Yes they are! We believe that parents who have “skin in the game” are more likely to be invested in their child’s education and success long-term. Our parents are committed by paying a portion of their child’s tuition, or by participating in our Earning and Learning Program to help pay for those fees.
For most families, this is a significant investment in their child’s education, but they understand the benefit of this level of education and truly believe in Hope Haven Rwanda. Parents also have the opportunity to attend the worship assemblies, participate in parent meetings, and learn vocational skills.
Yes. There are a few children who fall under this category due to extenuating circumstances. Each situation is taken on a case-by-case basis by our dedicated Rwandan staff.
As a Hope Haven sponsor, you can write and encourage your child up to three times per year. Our students love and look forward to messages from their sponsors. Knowing that someone on the other side of the world is thinking of them and believe in them makes a huge impact on their success.
Through our sponsor portal, you will be able to write letters of love and encouragement to your child. Our students will read your letter at school, and write back to you. Our US team will then gather those letters and mail out. We hold a letter writing day each term so you may write your child up to three times per year. We will also keep you looped in of any awards or special events that occur.
No. Please do not connect with your sponsored child through email, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, etc. It is our policy that sponsors and their sponsored children will only connect through The Kugaba Initiative. Students sign a communication agreement, stating that they will not contact their sponsors outside of the program. We do this to protect both you and the children from potentially confusing situations.
The goal of our program is to create Rwandan Christian world leaders and job creators. We understand the weight of this goal but we believe that God is faithful and provides. We expect that as a sponsor, you will take your responsibility of supporting a student seriously, encourage them in their education and character development, and pour into them through letters and prayers.
It is our hope that you and your student will form a lasting relationship that extends beyond graduation from our program.
We believe that the gift of a high quality, Christ-centered education is already the greatest gift our students could ever receive! In addition, you will have the opportunity to send a designated amount each Christmas that will be used to purchase a gift for your student in your name.
There will be an option to purchase gifts for students who are yet to get a sponsor. Since we try to provide a consistent educational opportunity for each child, we do not encourage additional gifts for our students.
Yes! We absolutely encourage you to visit our school and meet your child.
Be assured that our school leadership and teachers have very close relationships with your student’s family, and they are very involved in the educational process of their children. However, we do not encourage relationships and outside communication with parents of the students. This is due to various cultural differences and fairness to all families that are involved in the program. If you choose to visit Hope Haven and your sponsored child, a home visit can be arranged.
Yes! We are a registered 501(c)(3) organization. All tax receipt letters are mailed in January (just prior to tax time) for the previous year’s donations.
We understand that changes occur and, although we would love your continued support, some student sponsors may have to take a break from their sponsorship due to life circumstances. In order to provide a seamless experience for our children, we ask that you give a 60-day notice so that we can secure another sponsor for your child.
Situations may arise causing a child to leave Hope Haven. If this happens, we will contact you and work with you in matching with another student.
We hope that you and your child will maintain your special relationship well beyond their time at Hope Haven Rwanda. Once your child graduates, we will assist you in getting connected with your child so that you can keep in touch through your own means.
Yes! We always have special projects going on that need funding. Please check out our website for ways to get involved and thanks in advance for your support of all the wonderful things happening at Hope Haven Rwanda.
