As we prepare to celebrate Thanksgiving here in the United States, we wish you all God’s best as you gather with family and friends this special week, although “gatherings” will be a bit limited during the pandemic!
For many people, this special day is one of their favorite holidays. Some have noted that we could all use a little more “gratitude” in our lives, and this is the perfect day to pause and reflect on that truth.
Others have commented that they enjoy the fact that it’s not been as “commercialized“ as many other holidays. Of course, with retailers trying to take advantage of this day off, what used to be known as “Black Friday“ shopping deals began way before Friday. But we don’t have to fall prey to their bait.
Hopefully this little video of our neighborhood market in Rwanda will encourage you as you prepare for this holiday.
Remember: You don’t have to be overwhelmed with the latest and greatest material possessions to be filled with joy.
In fact, after living in Rwanda for a while, our family would argue that having too many material possessions can actually steal your joy!
True joy comes from the simple acronym we have shared before.
J.O.Y. is best experienced when we focus on these relationships…in this order:
Jesus.
“Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts…you were called to peace. And be thankful” (Colossians 3:15).
Others.
“I always thank my God for you because of his grace given you in Christ Jesus” (1 Corinthians 1:4).
You.
“The Lord is my strength and my shield; in him my heart trusts, and I am helped; my heart exults, and with my song I give thanks to him” (Psalm 28:7).
We are very thankful to all of you who are prayer partners, Hope Angels, Capital Campaign investors, guests and those who are part of our Hope Haven family in so many other ways!
Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours from our entire team!
