Let’s be honest. We’ve all had to pivot a bit during this pandemic, right? It reminds me of Proverbs 16:9, where we read, “In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.”
We have seen God establishing the steps at Hope Haven Rwanda for more than eight years. Miracle after miracle! To God be the glory for what He has done—it’s been amazing!
Recently, we were frustrated because many of our students were stuck at home. They don’t have technology like we do in our homes, some don’t have electricity and many do not even have running water in their homes. The students were frustrated, parents were frustrated and we were frustrated!
Our students are so smart—they want to grow, they want to learn. In fact, on most school days, they start showing up at 6:00 AM because they are so excited to be there!
So, we began praying hard. We tried to brainstorm about ways they could continue their learning. Our Headmaster, Fred Karangwa, and his team decided to tackle this project “head on” (pun intended)! They developed creative work-at-home packets which would enable these students to continue to develop into the Christian leaders and job creators that God has created them to be.
And, then, the deliveries began! Many of you have been in our neighborhood in Rwanda. You know how hard it is to get around in the rugged terrain of “the land of a thousand hills.” But with a massive amount of coordination, a convoy of “motos,” bike taxis, and whatever else we could find, the team began delivering these work-at-home packets by hand. What an undertaking!
Today, with God’s help, 90% of our upper-primary and secondary students are working through these packets at home—praise God!
Let me just say this: I don’t know what you are facing today. There may not appear to be an easy answer, or maybe even a way through the trial, in your situation.
I want to remind us all of our hope. I want to learn to lean more on God during these times and trust that He knows what He is doing. Will join me in faith today, trusting that God will establish our paths?
