Is there an animal you would associate with your personality? Our team recently completed a simple assessment to get to know each other better. It was a fun way to engage with each other and learn more about why we tend to operate the way we do. This particular test associated types of personalities with various animals and it was interesting to see beavers, otters and border collies show up.
As a Gallup-Certified StrengthsFinder coach, with more than a hundred coaching sessions under my belt, I recognize (and celebrate) that God has “wired” each one of us very differently. God works through our individual callings and personalities to create beautiful symphonies for His glory!
This week, I want to highlight our Founder and President, Susan Hollern. The assessment we took together identified Susan as a “Border Collie”—and I think it fits her perfectly!
Border collies are logical, determined and born to lead. During the five years that Susan and I have worked side-by-side, I have witnessed each of these characteristics in her.
Here are five notable aspects of this personality type:
1. They are leaders and will most likely be in leadership positions for most of their lives.
2. They are factually oriented—they love reason and logic.
3. They are driven and goal-oriented.
4. They are energized by people, activities and conversation.
5. They thrive with plans, lists and schedules.
I had to chuckle as I read these aspects because it prompted so many memories of experiences our team has shared together! We have made more lists together than I made in any other role in my life! And the cool thing is that we have accomplished many of the goals that began as a scribbled list of ideas.
We want to honor Susan as she celebrates her birthday this week in Rwanda. The reality is that Hope Haven would not be here today if it wasn’t for Susan!
We are grateful to God for her initiative, her undying passion, and her boundless energy! Her heart for others and the way she has allowed God to use her to bless so many others is stunning. Susan has also introduced countless people to a mission they might never have chosen on their own.
Susan inspires so many people and we wish her a very happy birthday this week. Only God knows what the future holds, but I have a feeling this border collie is just getting started!
I love seeing how God shapes each one of us for His purposes. Have you explored the unique ways God has shaped you? Are there a couple of ways you can flourish in your unique calling today?
