Have you ever tried to use voice texting and been surprised by the way your words were captured? I must not speak clearly enough, or perhaps it is because I speak too fast—yeah, that’s probably it! For whatever reason, I have had some humorous, and sometimes shocking, results while dictating text messages. Not long ago, my phone recorded what seemed like a divinely-inspired reminder. When I referred to Sarah “Damour” in my dictation, my phone captured it as Sarah “DO More.”
This dictation “mistake” made me smile because the message was right on! I can’t even fully express how much I appreciate Sarah Damour serving as an Executive Assistant at Hope Haven Rwanda. Kimberly and I have both been blown away by her astonishing skills, her strong work ethic and her love for Jesus and others. Sarah consistently delivers exceptional administrative results, usually more quickly than expected, and certainly more effectively than I could have done!
What is so cool about Sarah’s story is that when she accepted the offer to serve at Hope Haven Rwanda nearly three years ago, she had no idea that she would end up spending months in Rwanda, and sharing so many incredible experiences with her family and our community. Sarah and her husband, Chris, have both invested many years of their lives as vocational workers for ministries in the Denver area, but she never expected to serve overseas, even though she felt a tug in her heart to do so.
God had a flawless plan for Sarah and her family, and she has been delighted to see how He is working it out. Saint Paul told Timothy that Jesus “has saved us and called us to a holy life—not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time” (2 Timothy 1:9). There are several phrases that stand out in this text: “called us,” “his own purpose,” and “before the beginning of time.”
Just last week, Sarah sent me a note sharing that being in Rwanda and hosting visitors has become “such a cool piece of my job.” She listed several incredible people she met recently and then said, “I enjoy hearing their stories and watching them fall in love with Hope Haven.” Her husband Chris has been able to join her twice in Rwanda, and two of her three children served alongside her this summer as well. Just like the Hollern’s, the Jordan’s, the Peters’, and so many others, Hope Haven Rwanda has been woven into the Damour family story forever!
Let me remind each one of us: God divinely calls each one of us to serve. He knows where we fit best in His Kingdom. He beautifully orchestrates His plan for His glory. He always equips us for what He calls us to do. His grace is enough. All we need to do is to be faithful each day with what He has placed in front of us. There is no better way to live!
