Rejection or Direction?

  • By Jason Peters

  • December 17, 2019

Priscillah Kembabzi, our Director of Families, traveled with me to Musanze, Rwanda, not long ago. If you have met Priscillah, you know that she is a remarkable woman of God! She has keen insights into our community, having experienced extreme poverty and displacement as a child herself. She is able to connect with families easily and to help them take the steps necessary to help transform their lives—to enter into a new chapter!

As we worked together in Musanze, Priscillah shared something profound with me. She said, “People’s rejection is God’s direction.”

Wow, what a profound thought! We all suffer rejection on various levels and it really hurts. I have wasted way too many hours of my life reflecting on how I have been rejected and licking my wounds. It’s not a good place to find yourself.

A better path is to recognize that God is still on the throne, He is still in control, and He is definitely not surprised by what is happening to you. In fact, He is probably using that direction for His glory and our good. I’d much rather live in that space!

Isaiah 43 assures us that despite how we may feel on any given day, God is always at work—and doing a new thing in our lives:

“This is what the Lord says—
    he who made a way through the sea,
    a path through the mighty waters…
“Forget the former things;
    do not dwell on the past.
See, I am doing a new thing!
    Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?
I am making a way in the wilderness
    and streams in the wasteland.”

No matter what you may be facing today, be encouraged that God’s at work—He’s directing—so walk with Him!
