Michael and Sandra Winfrey returned this summer with an incredible team of representatives from Mission Hills Church in Colorado. Some of these folks should probably just move down to Rwanda since they spend so much time here! They have fostered the deep love that our community has for Mission Hills. Faces light up when they walk down the road in our Umudugudu (village), when they dance in the fields with students, when they deliver food during lunch or when they minister in the halls of our campus.
As followers of Jesus, we know that we are engaged in an ongoing spiritual battle against three clearly defined enemies: The world system, our own flesh and the “ruler” of this world. Even though we can distinctly classify each one of these enemies, the battle against them—especially when they work together—takes everything we’ve got. It is hard work, a constant uphill battle against clever opponents, scheming to steal, kill and destroy.
However, we also know that “in Christ” we are overcomers! The Psalmist gratefully wrote, “You turned my wailing into dancing…and clothed me with joy” (Psalm 30:11). We have hope when we hope in God! As the popular “Mercy Me” song puts it, “Grace Got You!” The Mission Hills Church team joyfully sang these lyrics to our Friday Morning Assembly:
“Sing, so the back row hears you! Glide, ’cause walking just won’t do! Dance, you don’t have to know how to, ever since, ever since grace got you! Laugh, ’til your whole sides hurting…so when you’re standing in the rain again, you might as well be dancing. Why? ‘Cause there ain’t no storm that can change how this ends, so next time when you feel blue, don’t let that smile leave you. Why? ‘Cause you have every reason…Grace got you!”
Rwanda is often called “The Land of a Thousand Hills” and Mission Hills Church is glorifying God on the hills of Rwanda! Is there a hill that God is calling you to serve on today?
