“Your faithfulness continues through all generations; you established the earth, and it endures” (Psalm 119:90).
When we think of generational impact, we typically think of parents investing in their children, who then influence their children, and so on…but what about when the concept of generational impact is turned upside down?
The renowned Chicago evangelist D.L. Moody returned from an evangelist outreach one evening and reported to his friend: “Two and a half people decided to follow Jesus at the service today.”
His friend responded, “Two and a half? Do you mean two adults and one child?”
“No, I mean two children and one adult. The children have their whole lives in front of them, the adult’s life is already half over!”
What an interesting shift in perspective! At Hope Haven Rwanda, we have seen this truth in action as our students help transform their families. For example, we have been blessed with two wonderful drivers, Jean Luc and Paccy, who are quick to respond when needed to safely deliver our staff and guests wherever they need to go.
Nearly two years ago, we began using Jean Luc as our driver because his daughter was a student at Hope Haven. We were surprised to see that his 8-year-old daughter, a Primary Three student, was taking time each Saturday to systematically teach Jean Luc English. Today, Jean Luc can communicate with clients from many different nationalities, and his English-speaking abilities have already tangibly expanded his work and increased his income!
Is there a child near you that you can invest in this week? You may be surprised to discover that you benefit from the interaction more than they do! And, of course, we have 630 Rwandan students that will profoundly benefit from your investment as a “Hope Angel!”
