Hope Haven Christian School opened in 2012, with classes held in a tent, a mud house, and under the limbs of an acacia tree.
Today, our students are ranked in the top percentile nationally, with ambitions to become Christian world leaders across Rwanda, Africa and beyond.
Over this time, through the faith of its partners, we have built a state-of-the-art campus with the space and equipment to offer thousands of Rwandan youth an unparalleled, faith-based education across the arts and sciences.

Hope Haven Rwanda was founded with the mission of providing education to a community deprived of learning opportunities.

In February 2012, 97 students arrived for their first day of class, greeted only by the shelter of a mud house and the shade of an acacia tree.

In 2013, we broke ground on a three-room academic building, which would later evolve into our dedicated preschool.

Relying on God for His provision, the dream for our space began with a few blueprints and a lot of determination.

Completing the first half of the Primary academic building in 2015 marked a significant milestone, providing space for a student body that had grown to 350 students.

By 2016, the opening of new visitor dormitories, suites, and cabins provided accommodation for hundreds of guests, offering them the opportunity to experience Hope Haven firsthand.

In 2018, the Primary academic building was further expanded, with additional classrooms, a library and a top-tier kitchen and versatile dining space.

In January 2021, we started a groundbreaking journey to transform the opportunities at Hope Haven. A new Secondary school campus with boarding allowed us to touch the lives of students from every district of Rwanda.

Over a whirlwind 17 months, the academic and dormitory structures were complemented with three computer labs, individual science labs, and a 700-person auditorium.

By early 2024, Hope Haven Christian Secondary had opened a sports complex with a regulation-size football pitch, running track, stadium seating, two basketball/volleyball courts, and four pickleball courts.

NURSERY SCHOOL
The Nursery School program at Hope Haven Christian School focuses on developing social, emotional, behavioral and physical skills as well as academic readiness.
Our main goal in teaching young children is to provide them with rich experiences that develop self-awareness, self-confidence and make learning fun.
We have three class levels; Baby (age 3-4), Middle (age 4-5), and Top (age 5-6). Every teacher is certified and provides instruction in both English and Kinyarwanda.
At each level, learning is through play where children learn to think, reason, and develop important skills using puzzles, tablets, toys and books.
Students attend class from 7:45 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., Monday-Friday.
PRIMARY SCHOOL
Our Primary School is a vibrant, caring environment where students aged 6-12 are engaged in inquiry, exploration and reflection.
Reading, writing, science and mathematics provide a solid foundation in learning, while additional classes such as languages, music, computer technology, citizenship and entrepreneurship round out the academic program.
With a view to developing young minds into future Christian world leaders, our primary curriculum puts an emphasis on the skills that will set them apart for service, such as critical thinking, public speaking, and relational Bible teaching.
SECONDARY SCHOOL
After six years of Primary School, passing the national exam in Rwanda opens the door to their academic futures in Secondary School, and beyond.
Lower Secondary
For the first three years, students work towards their Ordinary or “O” Levels, equivalent to grades 7–9 in the U.S. In the Sciences, they learn to analyze and explain scientific phenomena relating to real life experience. In Language Arts, they are trained to express themselves fluently and with confidence, in both speaking and writing, using vocabulary and grammar appropriate to their academic level.
Upper Secondary
On passing the O Level, students can proceed to the Advanced or “A” Level, equivalent to grades 10–12. In these crucial, final years of school, students choose three subject A Level combinations from across the Sciences, Humanities and Languages. An academic counselor provides guidance on the choice of subject combinations in line with the student’s career goals.
Following graduation, Hope Haven students will be qualified candidates to pursue higher education at a university or other tertiary institution. At Hope Haven, we’re working to pave a path forward to college through the creation of the Leadership Institute.
Like ambitious students anywhere in the world, Hope Haven’s pupils have their sights set high, on professions in fields as diverse as medicine, engineering, law, journalism, business, and church leadership.
